Grass covered sand dunes, fortress and most beautiful Danube sunset chasing
Zagajica hills are astonishing and curious, round-shaped grassy hills (looking like those of Tolkien’s Hobbits Shire) are in fact ancient sand dunes, a unique relict of the Pannonian plain past, before its recent-age transformation into acres of cultivated land.
These hills actually still don’t exist in Serbian touristic brochures, so it’s a real hidden gem and local exclusive. They are not easily accessible by car also.
‘Invisibility’ in a way serves as a shelter from potentially dangerous commercial exploitation.
On our tour, we will have an easy level hiking around hills, which will be a real way to enjoy carpet look green grass.
Best period to discover these hills is definetely – spring time
After an enjoyable half-day hike we will go for some refreshments and lunch in one famous local restaurant on Danube riverbank.
To make this day very enojoyable we will do a boat ride on mighty Danube.
On other side of Danube there is another attraction waiting for us.
Ram Fortress
As day come to the end, after nice boat ride around nearby river island, we will enjoy sunset at Ram Fortress, one of first artillery fortresses in Europe, built by Ottomans and as the legend says ‘place with most beautiful sunset on Danube’
Return to Belgrade is planned after sunset.
